PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Existing Structure Works
  • Close Proximity to Surrounding Tenants
  • Commercial Kitchen Facilities

Founded in 1960, St Mary’s House of Welcome is an organisation that offers help and services to disadvantaged and homeless members of the community. As demand continued to grow steadily throughout the years, St Mary’s House of Welcome incorporated other services such as emergency relief, recreational activities, psychiatric disability support and social work. With many additional services added, their existing facility no longer had sufficient space in which to provide them.

Partnering with renowned architects, Six Degrees Architects, McCorkell were engaged to carry out the refurbishment and extension of the existing premises. The aim for the project was to provide a more welcoming and comfortable environment for visitors as well as a better, more efficient workplace for staff. New spaces included a women’s room, training kitchen, arts and crafts room, computer training room, multi-purpose room and health clinic.

The project was a great success and went on to be awarded the 2010 AIA (Vic.) Public Architecture (Alterations) Award.
