Building on the success of the initial works at S.A.D.S’ Yarrambat facility, Stage 2 commenced with the demolition of existing buildings to create space for a significantly expanded kennel precinct.

This phase delivered more than 40 new kennels, supported by dedicated food preparation and storage areas to enhance day-to-day operations. Two large exercise yards were also constructed to provide ample room for physical activity, while a purpose-designed adoption garden was created to offer a welcoming environment for prospective adopters. Our early involvement during the tender phase and existing relationship with the client enabled key project elements to be refined, resulting in post-tender solutions that better aligned with the facility’s operational needs.

Stage 3 works involved removing the site’s final remaining buildings to establish a large, open exercise yard. This new space supports current operations while allowing flexibility for future expansion. Collectively, these upgrades significantly increase the shelter’s capacity, strengthening Save-A-Dog Scheme’s ability to care for and rehome hundreds of dogs and cats each year.

Through early procurement, proactive issue identification, and a solutions-focused approach with the design team, the project was delivered 23 working days ahead of schedule. Costs were stringently managed throughout the early contractor involvement process and during construction to ensure the not-for-profit operator’s budget objectives were achieved.
