Palm Court Apartments is a four storey apartment building with an approximate footprint of 600 sqm, comprising a basement with two 12,500 litre capacity fire tanks and fire pump room with two fire pumps, ground floor with undercover parking and two apartments with the remaining levels 1st to 3rd floors comprising, 3 two bedroom and two bathroom apartments. Each floor is serviced by a 15 person capacity high speed lift.
Although the actual build is of traditional structure, the orientation of the building presented many difficult and unique challenges to the project team. The apartment block is located in the centre of an active retirement village, adjacent to the Community Centre which is the focus of all community activities on a daily basis.
To assist our process, we located the builder’s compound outside Ocean Garden Village’s boundary, some 300 metres from the work site. This enabled McCorkell Constructions (WA) to vet all labour, materials and vehicular movement prior to entering the grounds. All vehicles were escorted by nominated personnel to and from the workface. This contributed to the exceptional safety record, in which not one incident or accident was experienced over the 66 weeks project lifecycle.
