PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- Restrictive Site Access
- Existing Structure Works
- Heritage Conversion
- High-Level Finishes
This project involved the conversion of the former ‘Caulfield City Rifle Club’ into the new ‘Bang Bang’ bar and restaurant. The façade was maintained and a new structure was built behind and around it to create versatile indoor and outdoor dining spaces overlooking the park, bar area, commercial kitchen, and amenities.
Some of the project challenges involved co-ordinating works between multiple stakeholders (the project was in consultation with and partly funded by the government organisation VicTrack), dealing with contaminated soil, a restricted site, and access, and achieving a high level of finish with the intricate linings, bar, built-in joinery and furniture expected of a top-class restaurant, café, and bar venue. The complex DDA ramp and building services (lighting control, heating, bar, and kitchen) were also completed with great results.
The project was completed successfully within nine months and was recently awarded the 2018 Property Council of Australia Innovation and Excellence Award for Best Government Leadership. The venue now acts as a gateway to the bustling Glen Huntly Road shopping strip and has enabled the rejuvenation of the adjacent park, which is a fantastic outcome for both the local community and visitors to the area.
