Haileybury is one of Melbourne’s most prestigious private schools and this exciting project comprised the construction of a new two-storey sports pavilion and a state-of-the-art music annexe.
Positioned with a commanding view of the sports oval, the Langford Pavilion’s upper level offers an expansive, open-plan space suitable for student classes, gatherings, and sports events, complemented by a covered balcony for game viewing. Once the operable walls are taken advantage of, the large, flexible function space is accompanied by a kitchen, a pre-function gathering room and vertical transportation. On the ground level, the pavilion encompasses a multi-functional gym, a suite of change rooms, a first aid bay, bathrooms and shower facilities.
Constructed in harmony with the adjacent historic David Bradshaw Chapel, the new music annexe enriches the campus with a spacious rehearsal room, flanked by seven private practice chambers, a staff office, and essential amenities. Furthermore, the project encompassed extensive landscaping and hardscaping, including the integration of amphitheatre seating, stairways, and a sunken courtyard entryway into the pavilion.
Throughout the project, meticulous planning and execution were paramount. A number of service diversions were orchestrated to minimise disruption to the adjacent school buildings. This new precinct has created an adaptable hub for community and school events and further reinforces the Keysborough campus as the heart of sporting culture at Haileybury.
