Partnering with architect McBride Charles Ryan, this state-of-the-art Gym and Events Centre is a multipurpose space for health and fitness as well as large student events, assemblies and performances. The visually striking building has a unique façade system with one of the elevations featuring a brick-tiled curved work-face. Internally, the building is filled with a high level of architectural detailing and bespoke finishes.
The new building includes a fitness centre, two large indoor sports courts, a multipurpose room, function room, kitchen, classrooms and study areas, offices, reception, change rooms and amenities. The facility also includes a large storage room with high ceilings to accommodate any large props and theatre rigging equipment for assemblies and performances. The two new indoor sports courts are connected to the existing gym with an operable wall and feature an integrated pass-through door. The existing courts were also refurbished with detailed strengthening works completed from within the existing building.
To deliver this project successfully, there was a high level of detailing which required considerable coordination between trades prior to works commencing on site. We invested time and resources in a thorough and intensive shop drawing review, samples and prototype process with the design team and subcontractors to minimise risk and provide the desired outcome. The PEGS Gym has since been recognised by Master Builders Australia, winning the National Education Facility Award in 2021.
