This project included the extension and significant upgrade of the existing deep space ground station for the European Space Agency. Works were completed in collaboration with the CSIRO Astronomy & Sports Science who remained in operation throughout the project, which created numerous logistical challenges on site.

The ground station is used for communicating with deep-space missions and provides support to spacecraft on missions to outer space. It was imperative that existing power and communications infrastructure were maintained throughout the project as any interruption to these services would have been detrimental to the communication with the spacecraft in orbit. A number of measures were put in place to minimise the potential risk of impacting existing infrastructure whilst working in the same vicinity.
