The new campus for Croydon Community School features multiple versatile indoor Advisory buildings, accompanied by directly accessible outdoor learning spaces scattered around the central courtyard. A technology building introduces dedicated spaces for high-performance computing, 2D/3D art, and woodworking.
At the opposite end of the campus, a science laboratory and home economics classroom lead to an outdoor kitchen featuring a traditional woodfire pizza oven. Covered walkways provide access to the attached multi-purpose Town Hall space that features a music rehearsal room that expands into a performing arts stage. To the right of the school’s main entrance, a large Wellbeing complex has been built with quiet reflection areas, private meeting spaces and ‘Doctors in Secondary Schools’ facilities.
Externally, an outdoor synthetic sports court along with a man-made river running throughout the campus have been integrated amid the picturesque native landscaping of the grounds. The river seeks to provide a calming soundscape to relax students as well as offer a place for contemplation or respite.
The contemporary new campus reflects the school’s ‘Big Picture Learning’ philosophy; prioritising each learner’s needs, interests and passions, and providing an innovative platform for the pursuit of educational excellence. The special design of the school caters to the pupils’ complex needs and allows them to flourish within an engaging and future-focused environment.
“Building a completely new school was foreign to me and my team, but throughout the process the McCorkell team recognised our passion for what we wanted the school to deliver for students and translated this into a truly beautiful, functional, inspiring, and therapeutic learning environment. Our new buildings are certainly a credit to your company, and we hope that you are justifiably as proud as we are of the new Croydon Community School.”
