The Vietnamese Museum Australia continues to take shape as a significant cultural landmark that will celebrate the stories, resilience and contributions of Vietnamese Australians.
Designed as a hub for cultural experience, education and community connection, the museum will feature exhibition spaces showcasing more than 280 artefacts, a community resource centre, function facilities, café and commercial kitchen, creating a lasting legacy for generations to come.
With the base build now complete, the building stands proudly and is already making a striking impression. The project’s distinctive architectural form, rich symbolism and highly detailed façade have come together to create a building that honours the journeys of the Vietnamese diaspora while providing a vibrant destination for the wider community.
Following completion of the structure, McCorkell is pleased to have secured the contracts for the internal fitout, as well as outdoor plaza works and bus stop relocation. Activity around the site has now ramped up significantly, and the next stage of works is well underway.
Internally, the fitout has commenced and the building has quickly become a hive of activity as key spaces begin to take shape, including the permanent museum space, community resource centre, commercial kitchen and café, and a flexible multi-purpose event space capable of hosting up to 450 guests. Together, these spaces will create a destination for education, reflection, celebration and cultural exchange.
The building’s thoughtful design intent is now clearly evident, with its repetitive rhythm and rounded forms inspired by bamboo, and earthy red tones paying homage to the Australian landscape that will become home to the museum. As these architectural elements come to life, the surrounding external works are beginning to enhance and complement the building’s strong visual identity and cultural significance, with works progressing on the new outdoor plaza and the first paving slab recently poured ahead of the winter weather.
As construction progresses, the significance of the project continues to resonate with everyone involved. More than just a building, the Vietnamese Museum Australia will be a place for education, reflection, celebration and community connection. We are proud to play a role in delivering such a meaningful asset and look forward to handing over this remarkable facility to the Vietnamese community, where it will serve as a lasting tribute to 50 years of Vietnamese settlement in Australia and be enjoyed for generations to come.
