We are thrilled to share an insight into one of our most significant education projects to date: the construction of the new TAFE Gippsland Port of Sale campus.

With a rich history in the institutional sectors, we stand as one of Victoria’s most experienced commercial construction companies when it comes to building education facilities. We are proud to have strong partnerships with tertiary institutions across Australia, and this project for TAFE Gippsland perfectly showcases our commitment to education and innovation.

Embracing Diversity in Education Spaces

The TAFE Gippsland Port of Sale campus presented us with an exciting challenge – creating a diverse array of specialised vocational learning spaces catering to a wide range of disciplines. The contemporary TAFE institution offers an immersive simulation of real-world workplace environments, seamlessly blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical learning experiences.

From the hair and beauty studios to the modern facilities for aged care workers, and the advanced workshops for automotive and engineering students, this campus was designed and built to fulfil diverse educational needs, all under one roof.

Putting Users at the Heart of Design

At McCorkell Constructions, we firmly believe that the best projects are those that incorporate the needs and aspirations of the end users.

Throughout the construction process, we conducted a series of TAFE user-group-driven workshops to inform the design of teaching spaces. By actively involving educators and staff members, we gained invaluable insights, enabling us to create an environment that fosters learning, collaboration, and personal growth.

The user groups contributed practical insights into optimising functionality, flow, and accessibility. Classrooms were designed to be flexible, allowing seamless transitions between traditional lectures and hands-on workshops, while communal areas encouraged social interaction.

The new Port of Sale campus will allow the TAFE to expand its courses, with vocational training in health being reintroduced to boost Gippsland’s workforce in the critical in-demand health sector.

Empowering the Local Community

As a socially responsible company, we believe in making a positive impact on the communities we serve. The TAFE Gippsland Port of Sale project provided an incredible opportunity to collaborate with local subcontractors and suppliers. By engaging with businesses within the region, we not only ensured the highest quality was achieved but also provided significant economic support to the greater Gippsland area. We are proud to share that an impressive 65% of the contract value was invested directly in the local economy, leaving a lasting impact.

The completion of the TAFE Gippsland Port of Sale campus stands as a symbol of growth and development for the entire region. This cutting-edge educational facility not only offers world-class learning spaces but also contributes to the social and economic progress of the greater Gippsland area.

As we look back at this diverse project, we extend our gratitude to our entire team including our dedicated subcontractors, and the consultant team. Together, we have created a campus that will inspire and nurture generations of innovative learners.
