We are pleased to share that McCorkell Constructions WA had success at the Master Builders Association WA Awards. For their work on the historic Rechabite in Northbridge,  they picked up awards in two categories; Best Public Use Building $1.5M – $5.0M and Construction on a Challenging Site

Listed on the State Register of Heritage Place, the original Rechabite Hall was erected in 1925, in the heart of Northbridge, for the Independent Order of Rechabites, a society that promoted total abstinence from alcohol. Surviving a fire in the 1980’s the building had fallen into disrepair.

In early 2019, McCorkell Constructions (WA) were engaged by Happy Heart, to complete the redevelopment of the Rechabite Hall into a new Multi-purpose performance, entertainment and hospitality venue, whilst maintaining the authenticity and heritage of one of Perth’s grand heritage treasures.

I have nothing but great things to say about the McCorkell team and their work on The Rechabite. The dedication and passion shown to the project was palpable at every step of the way and really delivered results. Myself and the other Directors of The Rechabite tip the hat and thank all at McCorkell for their work on such an iconic and already well-loved civic cultural centre.”

The project scope consisted of the complete redevelopment of The Rechabite Hall into a multi-purpose performance, entertainment, and hospitality venue whilst maintaining the authenticity and heritage character of one of Perth’s grand treasures. The transformation spanned across four levels from the basement to the new rooftop bar.

Original features such as the staircase, tiling, ticketing booth and huge double doors are accentuated with finishes like prison mesh, which has been used throughout the venue along with exposed utility workings.

Illuminated artworks offset walls and panels of pressed tin that tell stories with historical smoke and fire damage proudly uncovered and maintained.

The Rechabite will now progress through to the National Master Builders Association Awards. Congratulations to the team and best of luck at the National awards!
