- Honed Limestone Walls
McCorkell Constructions was engaged to undertake the construction of a new Catholic church in Attadale. The building comprises a split level structure with extensive ramps and walkways, a sanctuary, nave, multiple sacristies, toilets, narthex, meeting room, office, reception, external carpark and landscaping.
External design features included tall diamond-cut limestone walls, cedar eaves and a curved acrylic-rendered wall with a cross-shaped window.
Internally the building features a combination of limestone and plasterboard walls, perforated ceilings and carpet and tile floor finishes.
The use of feature limestone blocks for the exposed walls both internally and externally presented a number of challenges to the project. Namely in maintaining the quality of the diamond finish within the ashlar pattern and curved limestone walls. In addition to on-site diamond cutting, wall grinding was undertaken to the curved walls to ensure the required smoothness and tolerances were achieved.
