The Giant Steps Autism School Expansion involved constructing a new two-storey building with undercroft parking, featuring modern learning areas, multi-purpose halls, office spaces, a commercial kitchen, and upgraded amenities. The project also included partial demolition to improve access to the synagogue’s western entrance and the construction of a new substation enclosure to support infrastructure upgrades. These enhancements ensure the expanded school is not only functional but also efficient and accessible.
Built within a sensitive live education environment, the project required careful planning to minimise disruption to students and staff. Major works were strategically scheduled during school holidays to reduce their impact. Originally designed to be built in two phases, our team streamlined construction into a single phase, shortening the overall timeline. Additional innovations, such as lightweight framing, improved buildability and accelerated project delivery.
Through effective stakeholder coordination and a well-executed program, the expansion was completed over a month ahead of schedule. The new expansion provides the Giant Steps community with a significantly improved learning environment tailored to the needs of its students, staff, and families.
