Originally constructed in 1931, the AMP Building remains a commanding presence in Melbourne’s CBD, retaining its historic character amidst a backdrop of high-rise developments. A significant icon of the city’s architectural heritage, the building today serves as a mixed-use space, accommodating commercial offices, retail tenancies, a basement car park, and a nightclub venue.

Our team were engaged to deliver a comprehensive restoration of the building’s façade and internal heritage features, reinstating its original grandeur while ensuring it remains functional for modern use.

The restoration works focused on the building’s external envelope, with the careful remediation of the original stone façades along the Collins Street and Market Street elevations. The south and east façades were refinished with a render that seamlessly matched the existing aesthetic. These restoration efforts were supported by essential service upgrades and the installation of a bespoke façade lighting system, designed to accentuate the building’s architectural details.

Internally, the project involved the meticulous restoration of the lobby and stairwells spanning eight levels. Key heritage elements were brought back to life, including the original brass stair handrails and the building’s historic timber floorboards and stairs. The existing wall tiles were thoroughly cleaned and repaired, and where replacement was necessary, new tiles were crafted to match the original specification.

This project reflects our deep expertise in heritage restoration and our proven ability to deliver complex works in busy, live operating environments.
