We are beyond excited and honoured to announce that McCorkell have recently been awarded the contract to deliver the heritage shed restoration works at the iconic Queen Victoria Market.
The open-air sheds are central to its unique character and are culturally and historically significant. However due to their age, significant conservation works are needed to ensure the sheds continue to be a part of Melbourne long into the future.
The staged works will encompass a range of maintenance, repairs and restoration works across all 12 heritage sheds, including adjoining verandahs and walkway structures. As much as possible, all original materials will be preserved and any elements that cannot be salvaged will be replaced on a ‘like-for-like’ basis.
Works will be undertaken in stages to minimise disruption to market traders and customers and are programmed for completion in mid-2022.
Here’s to the next 24 months restoring one of Melbourne’s most beloved icons!
